Curbside Pick Up Guidelines

What to Set Out — and What to Keep Inside

Please review these guidelines before cleanup day. Following them helps our crew serve your community efficiently and safely.

All items must be placed curbside at your normal garbage pickup location by your designated time on your clean-up day. Do not set items out more than 48 hours in advance. All small items must be in a garbage bag or box. Do not use garbage cans or containers you wish to keep — all items at the curb will be collected.

Items Accepted for Pickup

  • Box springs, mattresses, bed frames
  • Sofas, tables, chairs, dressers, desks, bookshelves
  • Bathroom fixtures, toilets, sinks
  • Children's toys
  • Paint cans (must be open and completely dry)
  • Outdoor patio furniture, garden tools
  • Gas-powered items (fully drained of fuel, oil, and hazardous materials)

Items NOT Accepted

  • Items on trailers, building materials, excessive remodeling materials
  • Roofing, shingles, bricks, concrete

Frequently Asked Questions

Can't find your answer here? Call us at 866-525-4506 or email office@kluesnersanitation.com.

What time do I need to have items at the curb?

All items must be placed at your normal garbage pickup location by 6:00 a.m. on your city's cleanup day. Our crews begin routes early and may reach your street at any time throughout the day.

How early can I set items out?

Items may not be set out more than 48 hours in advance of your cleanup day. Setting items out too early can create issues with neighbors, local ordinances, and weather damage to your belongings.

Do I need to purchase a tag for appliances and electronics?

Yes — for most cities, appliances and electronics (TVs, computers, refrigerators, washers, etc.) require a tag purchased at City Hall prior to cleanup day. The tag must be affixed to the item at the curb. Contact your City Hall for tag pricing and availability.

What if my city isn't on the schedule yet?

A few cities hold a fall clean-up every year but haven't confirmed this year's date yet — check back soon, follow us on Facebook, or call us for current status.

What if I miss my city's cleanup day?

No problem — you still have options. Dubuque or Delaware county residents can bring accepted items to our year-round drop-off sites in Dyersville or Manchester. Clayton county residents can use our Garnavillo drop-off site (fees apply). Larger loads can also be handled with a roll-off dumpster rental. Call 866-525-4506 and we'll help find the right solution.

Can I put items in my garbage cans or bins?

No — do not use containers you want returned. All items at the curb will be collected. Small items should be placed in a garbage bag or cardboard box, not a can or tote you plan to keep.

Can I drop off tires at the cleanup day?

Tires are not accepted during curbside cleanup collection. You can drop off tires year-round at our drop-off sites in Dyersville, Manchester, and Garnavillo. Fees apply — call for current pricing.

Can I put yard waste out for cleanup day?

Yard waste — including grass clippings, leaves, trees, and branches — is not accepted during curbside cleanup day. Yard waste can be brought to our drop-off sites year-round. Fees apply.
